Ohio Co, West Virginia. She died on 16 DEC 1937 in Grand Island, Hall Co,
Nebraska. She was buried on 20 DEC 1937 in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery,
Grand Island, Hall Co, Nebraska. She practiced the faith of a Methodist in
Methodist Episcopal Church.
MRS. SUSIE BROWN CLAIMED BY DEATH:
Mrs. Susie Brown, a resident of this
community since 1896, died Thursday at 3:15 o'clock this morning at her home,
three miles southwest of the city, following an illness of the past year's
duration. Susie Hubbard was born Aug. 4, 1870, at Wheeling, W. V., and was
united in marriage to Hubert Brown, Feb. 7, 1889, at Greeley, Colo. Two
daughters and two sons were born of their marriage, She was most devoted to her
home and family. Surviving are two sons, Clarence E. Brown and Otis A. Brown,
both of this city; two daughters, Miss Dorothy Brown, this city, and Mrs.
Gladys Welch of Stickney, S. D., six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death on March 18, 1927. Funeral services will be
held at 2:30 o'clock, Sunday afternoon at the Geddes funeral home. Rev. Earl
Raitt, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, will officiate and burial will
be on 20 Dec. 1937 in the Grand Island cemetery. Herbert BROWN and Susie
HUBBARD had the following children:

Ray Halstead Passes Away:
Ray Halstead, an Ione area resident
since 1950, died Monday, March 9, at Mt. Linton Hospital in Metaline Falls. He
was 76 years of age.
A memorial service will he held
Thursday, March 12, at 2 p.m. at the Ione Congregational Church. Sherman
Funeral Home is handling arrangement, and Elmer Armstrong of Tiger, Wash. will
officiate. Vocalist Merril Womach will sing "Whispering Hope" and
"Amazing Grace."
Cremation preceded the services.
Halstead was born January 30, 1911, in
Grand Island, Neb. He had been a logger and a hard rock miner.
He was a member of the North Pend
Oreille County Lions Club at Metaline.
Halstead married Flora Ruhe July 19,
1932, in Hastings, Nebraska. She survives him at home in Ione, at the age of
54.
Other survivors include two sons,
Willard of Metaline Falls and Everett of Ione; a daughter, Dorothy Stecker of
Medford, Ore.; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests that memorials be
made to the Ione Congregational Church, Ione, WA 99139.
He was married to Flora Grace RUHE
(daughter of Waldo Ernest RUHE and Ada Grace MCKOWN ) on 19 JUL 1932 in
Hastings, Adams Co, Nebraska. Flora Grace RUHE was born on 15 FEB 1915
in Ovina, Hall Co, Nebraska. Ray HALSTEAD and Flora Grace RUHE had the

Doniphan High School, Doniphan, Hall Co, Nebraska. He served in the military
between 1945 and 1961 in U. S. Army. He died on 20 FEB 1963 in Aurora, Douglas
Co, Colorado. He was buried on 24 FEB 1963 in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Cairo,
Hall Co, Nebraska. He was a Chief Warrant Officer in U. S. Army. He practiced
the faith of a Methodist in Cairo Methodist Church, Cairo, Nebraska.
Ex-Cairo, Doniphan Resident Dies at 46:
Mr. Cecil J. Lorance, 46, a former
resident of Cairo and Doniphan, died Wednesday in a Denver hospital after an
illness of several weeks. He was a retired Chief Warrant Officer. His home was
at Derby, Colorado.
Funeral services were held at Cairo
Sunday at 2 p.m. at Apfel Funeral Home. The Rev. Gordon Patterson, pastor of
the Cairo Methodist Church, and American Legion Department Chaplain,
officiated. Mrs. Donald Luther, soloist sang "Abide With Me"
accompanied by pianist Mrs. Alfred Veeder.
Pallbearers were Clayton Perkins,
Richard Lorance, Eldon Mohr, Ernest Brooks, Wilmer Evans, and Ronald Mohr.
Colorbearers were Lester Clausen and Dick Mohanna. Bob Larson and Alvin Jewel
froned the color guard and Burdette Caswell was sergeant-at-arms. The salute by
rifle squad was Edward Van Winkle, Glenwood Hargens, Gerald Bellairs, Earl
Baade, Ben Schoneberg, Lloyd DeFreece, and Al Veeder. The flag was folded by
Robert Lowry and Don Luther and was presented to the widow, Maxine Ruhe Lorance
by Luther. Ray Crowl sounded taps. Burial was in the Cairo Cemetery.
Visitation hours were from 7 to 9 p.m.
Saturday at the Funeral Home.
Mr. Lorance was born January 26, 1916,
to Mr. and Mrs. Harvey J. Lorance of Doniphan. He grew up at Doniphan and
graduated from high school there. He was married to Miss Maxine Ruhe of Grand
Island. They lived in Grand Island, at Cairo, and at the various places he was
stationed with the Armed Forces He enlisted in the Army in 1945 and received a
medical discharge in 1961. While in service he served in Japan, Korea, and
Germany.
He is survived by his wife, of Derby;
one son, Sp. 5 Dennis Lorance of Ft. Sheridan, Ill; one sister, Mrs. Alice
Johnson of Grand Island; and one brother, Bruce Lorance of Grand Island.
Present from out of town were; Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Woods of Derby; and Mr. and
Mrs. Hebr Bock, and Wilma of Aurora, Colorado, and many other from the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents
and one brother, Dale.
He was married to Maxine Luella RUHE
(daughter of Waldo Ernest RUHE and Ada Grace MCKOWN ) on 18 JAN 1940 in
Nebraska. Maxine Luella RUHE was born on 3 JUN 1920 in Ovina, Hall Co, Nebraska.
Cecil Jacob LORANCE and Maxine Luella RUHE had the following children:

in 1917. He died before 1962.

2. John Brice MCKOWN was born on
20 AUG 1842 in Elizabethtown, Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. He died on 5 NOV 1908
in Bancroft, Cuming Co, Nebraska.
He was married to Margaret CARDER
(daughter of Henry CARDER and Francis KELLOGG) on 7 JAN 1868 in Knoxville, Marion
Co, Iowa.
Obituary of Mrs. Margaret Carder McKown
Livington:
Margaret Carder was born July 25 1847.
She lived in Ohio from birth to several years before moving to Illinois with
her parents. She later was married to John Brice McKown. After two years in
Illinois, they moved to Emerson, Iowa, where they resided for the following
thirty years. Mr. McKown was engaged in business for himself, with others as a
grocery business, and in business with Mr. James West in a clothing store.
On leaving Emerson, they moved to
Hastings, Iowa, where Mr. McKown was manager of the lumber and grain business
there for several years. He later was elected postmaster which office he held
for several years. On leaving Hastings, Iowa. they moved to Pender, Nebraska,
where Mr. McKown died November 5, 1908.
To this union were born 13 children
named: Ronald K.; Eddie; Fannie M.; Cora; Clyde A. Blanche; Ray A.; Merle C.;
James H.; Ala J.; Ada G.; Frank H. and Flora H. Five of this family preceded
their father in death. In April of 1916, Mrs. McKown united in marriage with
Mr. Alexander Livington, at Kingsley, Iowa. On March 2, 1923, he also was
called in death. Mrs. Livington was a charter member of the Presbyterian church
of Emerson, Iowa of which she was a lifelong worker. She also was a member of
the Women Relief Corps of Emerson, Iowa, which organization attended her
funeral in a group.
Mrs. Livington departed from this life
at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. B. Collings, on February 5, 1926. The
remains were laid to rest beside her former husband. Mr. J. B. McKown. Funeral
services were held at the Presbyterian church at Emerson, Iowa, at 2 p. m.
Wednesday, February 10, 1926.
The service were conducted by the
Pastor, Rev. F. A. Heizer. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Honeymoon, Mr. and Mrs. Stuart
Honeymoon sang and Mrs. Roscoe Parker played the organ.
The pallbearers were her five sons,
Ronald, Clyde, Merle, James, Frank, and son-in-law, A. B. Collings.
Mrs. Livington was a devoted wife and a
loving mother. Relatives in attendance were: two daughters, Mrs. W. E. Ruhe of
Grand Island, Nebr., Mrs. A. B. Collings, of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. James H.
McKown of Columbus, Nebr., Mrs. Frank H. McKown of Miller, South Dakota. The
nephews were: M. H. and C. H. Paterson of Harlan, Iowa Mr. and Mrs. H. W.
Carder and W. S. Carder of Red Oak, Iowa.
Margaret CARDER was born on 25 JUL 1847 in Hebbardsville, Athens
Co, Ohio. She died on 5 FEB 1926. John Brice MCKOWN and Margaret CARDER had the
following children:

11 DEC 1843 in Denmark. He immigrated in 1872 to Lee Center, Lee Co, Illinois.
He died on 11 AUG 1922 in Oakland, Burt Co, Nebraska. He was buried on 13 AUG
1922 in Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Burt Co, Nebraska. He was a Proprietor of a
Farm. He practiced the faith of a Lutheran in Grace Lutheran Church.
Robert Robertson Passes Away:
The line of old settlers was further
thinned last week, by the passing away of Robert Robertson, who had been a
resident of Nebraska since 1883, most of the time in Burt Country. His death
occurred Friday, 11 August 1922, and his age was 78 years and 8 months.
Robert Robertson was born in Denmark on
December 11, 1843. In 1872 he brought his family to America and settled at Lee
Center, Lee Co, Illinois. That was his home until 1883, whereupon he moved his
family to Nebraska. Retiring in 1897 he moved to Oakland, where he spent about
25 years. Mr. Robertson was a member of Grace Lutheran church of the General
Synod of America.
Mr. Robertson was a robust man, and
until about two years ago in fine health for a man of his years. He failed
rapidly during the past two years, but was able to be up and about the house
until a few days before his death. He was a kindly, friendly man, who lived a
peaceable and tranquil life.
His aged wife survives him, as so the
following children: Mrs. Henry Ruhe, Grand Island, Mrs. Louis Ruhe, Bertha;
Albert Robertson, Winnebago; Mrs. H. T. Hansen, Hansen, Nebraska. There are
also 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at Oakland M. E.
Church last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Joseph Stopford Officiating.

EDWARDSON (daughter of Unknown EDWARDSON and UNKNOWN ) on 3 JAN 1865 in
Copenhagen, Denmark. Carrie Christina EDWARDSON was born on 3 JAN 1840
in Denmark. She immigrated in 1872 to Lee Center, Lee Co, Illinois. She died
after JAN 1933 in Oakland, Burt Co, Nebraska. She was buried after JAN 1933 in
Oakland Cemetery, Oakland, Burt Co, Nebraska. She practiced the faith of a
Lutheran in Grace Lutheran Church.
Aged woman is laid to rest:
Mrs. Carrie Edwardson Robertson, 93
years old, and a resident of Oakland, Burt Co, Nebraska for 25 years, died at
her home in the Bertha Community, Saturday, where she had lived with her
daughter Mrs. Louis Ruhe, for the past ten years. Mrs. Robertson resided at
Oakland from 1897 until 1922, when her husband passed away. Since that time she
had lived in the Bertha Neighborhood.
Born in Denmark, January 3, 1840, she
was christened Carrie Christina Edwardson. She lived in that country for some
time after she was married to Robert Robertson. In 1872 she accompanied her
husband and children to America, where they settled in Lee Center, Lee Co, Illinois.
The couple resided there for eleven years, when they moved to Nebraska to
settle in Holt County. Several years later they moved to Oakland. Mr. and Mrs.
Robertson farmed in this vicinity until 1897, at which time they retired from
active farming and moved to Oakland. Here they made their home for 23 years or
until Mr. Robertson died August 11, 1922.
During the last ten years Mrs. Robertson
enjoyed exceptional health until recently, when she became bedfast for six
weeks.
Mrs. Robertson who was a highly
respected resident of the Bertha community is survived by two daughters, Mrs.
Carrie Ruhe of Grand Island, and Mrs. Ida Hansen of Hansen; two sons, Albert
Robertson of Winnebago, and Peter Robertson of Dear Trail, Colorado; one sister
Mrs. Nels Toxword of Bancroft, 32 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren. Her
husband and two children, Mrs. Louis Ruhe and Sherman Robertson, preceded her
in death.
She was member of Grace Lutheran church.
A short Funeral service at the house, followed by rites at the Methodist church
in Oakland were held Monday. Rev. L. A. Thompson of Lyons officiated, assisted
by Rev. L. R. McGaughey of Oakland. A male quartet sang three selections at the
Funeral. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery. Robert ROBERTSON and Carrie Christina
EDWARDSON had the following children:
