5. Annie Laurence b:~1864 appears in the 1881 census. Perhaps a daughter of Eliza Laurence.

6. A James & Helen Lawrence and family appears in YnBr-1881 and Cht2-1891 census. No data to tie here.

7. "McLeod/Lawrence: At Port Hood, Wednesday the 8th, by Rev. W. Miller. Mr. Isaac McLeod, Teacher of Mabou to Euphemia, eldest dau. of George C. Lawrence, Esq., High Sheriff of the County of Inverness. (1 Feb)."

8. Another gravestone at the Port Hood cemetery reads: James Turnbull / Barrister at Law & M.P.P. / ?? July 1846 / Age 48. Presumably James was a brother of Helen.

9. Given the children's birthdates it appears George and Helen moved from Melrose to Port Hood between 1830 & 1835.

10. Letter to Harold Laurence from Diuardface? dated 12-Aug-1932 appears here.

11. Pigot & Co's "New Commercial Directory" of 1825-26 includes the following:
"George Laurence was a watch- and clock-maker, a bell-hanger and a printer and stationer, although it is doubtful if his working premises could have been described as a shop."
Appeared in "Melrose 1826" edited by D.M. Hood and published by the Melrose Historical Society.

1. George C. Laurence sold 16 acres of land and the building on it to Henry A. Forbes for $140 on November 8, 1875.
The deed reads as follows:

Dated Nov. 8, 1875 between George C. Laurence of Port Hastings, County of Inverness, Merchant and Sara A. Laurence his wife, and Henry A. Forbes of same place, Bookkeeper, for the sum of one hundred and forty dollars of lawful money of Nova Scotia.

Description of Land.
Lying and being in Port Hastings described as follows: By lands on the Southeast by lands of Lauchlin McKinnon; on the Southwest by waters of the Strait of Canso; on the Northwest by lands of Rev. W.G. Forbes and on the Northeast by the General Read Line of the first concession of lots and containing sixteen acres more or less together with all and singular the houses, buildings, ways watercrosses, easerments and privileges.
