The 1841C gives terms and years expired on leases, which is a good indication of when someone moved to a locality. In Lot 57, Donald has two years of his 999 year lease expired. This is similar to most of his neighbors and suggests that the whole area where he lived was settled around 1838-1839. It is clear from the enumerator's comments that the lands were newly settled in the "back woods" away from the shore. [AC]

Malcolm (the first one) and Duncan Buchanan (Lot 57) are on years 10 and 2 of 999 year leases respectively, although they are at Mount Buchanan, an established area where few are on leases; therefore this does not likely indicate the time of first settlement of the land. [AC]
